December & Year End Recap!

December & Year End Recap!

December was full of catching up on ARCs!

The State of the ARC December reading challenge were fantasy ARCs. I only had one ARC that was being published in December and I thought I’d play a little catch-up! So, you may notice that majority of these are in fact, fantasy reads.

December Completed Reads

My Top Picks for the Month

All of these are 5-star reads

  • The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden: This is the second installment in the Winternight Trilogy. This read just blew me away! Perhaps it was partially due to the Winter feel that was so right for this time of the year. One this is for certain that the effort put into creating such an atmospheric read really paid off! Not only did The Girl in the Tower have such a lovely setting, the writing style, character development, and plot building were solidly implemented.
  • Everless by Sara Holland: As the author’s debut novel, Everless did not disappoint! While it had a slower beginning, once the stage was set for the reader, the plot took off! Created around a unique concept; time being a currency in the realm, it makes one appreciate the time they do have that much more.

4-Star Reads

  • The Young Queens by Kendare Blake: This short novella tells the backstory leading up the the three queens’ upbringing, and ultimately, separation. It is rather devastating, as the reader sees just how quickly the three girls of the Three Dark Crowns series are ripped apart, no longer allowed to love one another.

2017 Recap

I’d love to give a full recap on this past year’s reads. However, 150+ books to go through is simply too much. Instead, I’ve added a widget showing each and every title I read throughout 2017. I will also be posting a Top Picks of 2017 blog about my favorite reads. Keep your eyes open for that if this shelf below interests you!

I’m thinking about also posting a Least-Favorite Reads from 2017 blog, what do you think? Let me know in the comments below! 😀

I am the author behind Foals, Fiction & Filigree. An all-encompassing blog about horses, books, and my art.
