Book Review: Wicked As You Wish

Book Review: Wicked As You Wish

Many years ago, the magical Kingdom of Avalon was left desolate and encased in ice when the evil Snow Queen waged war on the powerful country. Its former citizens are now refugees in a world mostly devoid of magic. Which is why the crown prince and his protectors are stuck in…Arizona.

Wicked As You Wish (A Hundred Names for Magic, #1)Wicked As You Wish by Rin Chupeco

I’m excited to be a part of the WICKED AS YOU WISH blog tour with The Fantastic Flying Book Club from February 26th – March 3rd, 2020!

I received an ARC of this book from Sourcebooks Fire via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! In no way does this affect my rating or review.

DNFing at 25%

Wicked As You Wish had elements that I deeply yearn for, yet loathed in a Young Adult story. I loved how complex the world-building was. The problem with the world-building is that there is so much that it doesn’t fit into the story seamlessly. The extensive info-dumping of a massive history is ultimately the downfall for this story, because it reads like a textbook and isn’t very cleverly interwoven to hide its bluntness throughout. I even like history books! When I’m reading a fantasy, however, I expect something much different in terms of getting the background information needed to grasp the world-building.

Outside of the unloading of the world, the characters, what they are doing, and where they are, completely evaded me. For these reasons, I couldn’t get into this story and lost interest in progressing further.

I will not be assigning a star reading since this is a DNF.
