Rachel de la FuenteAbout the Author:
Rachel de la Fuente (meaning of the fountain) lives in Maryland with the love of her life and two furry children that meow. The Most Special Chosen is her first novel, but it’s hardly her first story. She’s been writing since elementary school, and telling stories since she could speak. She is an avid fountain pen enthusiast with a bit of an ink problem, and often writes book notes and sections of stories by hand.

Rachel was born and raised in southern California, but spent many summers with family in Mexico. Her parents loved traveling, so she also spent many vacations in various locations, soaking up foreign cultures and sights. She still loves to travel, and is committed to crossing all of the locations off her bucket list.

Rachel is a proud Slytherin, and when not writing, spends much of her free time reading, cross stitching, and watching documentaries.

1) Tell us a little about yourself!

I never do well with this question. I feel like my brain seizes up whenever someone asks me about myself.
Um…I’m a southern California transplant living in the Washington, DC area and an avid fountain pen enthusiast with a growing ink problem. I’ve got 9 tattoos and 11 piercings. I can geek out with the best of them, and enjoy going to AwesomeCon every year.

2) What got you into writing?

I don’t know. I’ve been writing or telling stories since I was very young. I wrote short stories in elementary school, and just kept writing until I eventually had a novel. And now here I am with all the makings of a series.

3) What was your source (or sources) of inspiration for The Most Special Chosen?

Well, the original source of inspiration was a boyfriend in high school. But several years later, I wrote what is now chapter 14 (I really don’t remember where I got the idea) and it completely changed the course of the story. I’m very happy it did, because the book is infinitely better now.

4) Who would you say are your biggest influences in your writing style?

Well, having re-read Kresly Cole’s A Hunger Like No Other recently, I realized that she definitely had
significant influence on my writing. I imagine that many of the authors I read often have had some kind of effect as well. So Philippa Gregory, Nina Bangs, Jane Austen, and several fan fiction writers have probably all contributed to my writing style.

5) What lessons (if any) are to be learned from the characters in The Most Special Chosen?

Ooh, I’ve never been asked this before. I don’t think I offer any overt lessons, but the importance of friendship is definitely in there. Everyone needs that friend that really understands you. Picking your battles gets some page time. You can’t fight every battle in your life. You have to determine what’s important to you, and sometimes that means letting other things slide.

6) Who is your favorite character in The Most Special Chosen, and why?

I have a particular fondness for Shawn. He’s based on my best friend in high school, and the nostalgia factor is strong. I also really like Damien’s brother Sebastian, and another character that I don’t want to name just yet, but plays an important part in the latter half of The Most Special Chosen.

7) What drew you to write a paranormal romance?

It’s fun. I’ve always had a bit of a thing for vampires and werewolves. Reading paranormal romance over the years has just increased my interest. You can do so much with it. You can invent your own mythologies. I will say that as the series continues, there will be less of an emphasis on the romance part, and more emphasis on drama. That’s not to say the romance will go away, but it won’t be the main focus.

8) What can we look for in the future from you? Do you have any other books planned?

Later this year I have a short story coming out in Crossroads in the Dark IV, a charity anthology from my
publisher. I also have 6 total novels planned for the Exalted Bloodlines series, as well as side stories here and there, probably in anthologies. Otherwise, we’ll see where the writing fairy takes me.
